For a better Lansing— for all of us.

Lansing’s charter was built for the past. Let’s work together to bring it into the future.

What is the Charter?

The Lansing City Charter is the guiding document for the City of Lansing. It’s the backbone defining Lansing’s offices, their structure, and how laws are made. This document is from 1978 - it is long overdue for an update that brings city government into the 21st century.

Why Sam Klahn?

Equitable

Raised in Lansing, Sam will approach the review process with an open mind and with the people of the city he calls home at heart. He values a system that will ultimately be best for everyone, in whichever form it may appear. We need a charter that is written by and for the people, not special interests.

Knowledgeable

Sam comes from the intensive, research-heavy James Madison College at Michigan State University. This degree gives Sam a deep knowledge of political structures and how they affect our daily lives. We need a charter that is well-written and actually empowers people.

Cooperative

Sam believes that working broadly and diversely is best. He is willing to cross aisles and build bridges to build a better Charter. He will engage in level discussion with anyone willing to reciprocate. We need a charter that includes input from everyone.
